The Prep Baseball Report Future Games start Thursday at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. So far, we’ve taken a look back at past participants as well as the top 2017 position players and pitchers coming to this year’s event. Rising sophomores, 2018s in this case, are typically sprinkled among the rosters. Here is a look at the ones coming this year.
Bryce Cunningham, MIF/RHP, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, PA
Cunningham appears more physically mature than his 5-foot-11, 170-pound listing suggests. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with an open stance and strides to square. He hangs in the air with his stride, occasionally causing him to be late getting his foot down. However, when he's on time and his hands don't leak forward, his bat speed (92-mph exit velo) and strength have the ball jumping off his barrel. While his physical development will likely determine whether or not he outgrows shortstop and has to make the move over to the hot corner, Cunningham moves well and shows good hands in the field, while already having enough arm (85 mph) to play on the left side. He also runs a 7.26-second 60.
