NEW ALBANY - The better Mike Sokol became as a pitcher, the more rethinking he did when it came to a prior commitment to Miami. When the New Albany senior opted out to pursue other avenues, the 22nd-rated 2020 in the state found what he was looking for when it came to his future. “I was going to be a walk-on my first two years before I was guaranteed a spot and over the spring and summer I got a lot better,” Sokol explained. “Me and my family thought we’d open it back up and try to find something better than walking on the first two years. “Ohio State watched me, I went on a visit, and they made an offer.” What OSU coaches saw was a projectable pitcher with size. “I have room to grow,” noted the 6-4 175-pounder. “I don’t have a lot of muscle on me.” There was more that Ohio State liked. “They like my slider a lot, and my changeup, too,” added Sokol, who has made strides to get to this point of being a commit to the Big 10 school. |
