Q and A with Wooster Commit: Jacob Solomon (Independence HS)
May 1, 2012
Jacob Solomon, OF, Independence HS
PBR: Why did you choose Wooster?
Solomon: I chose Wooster because the education is top-notch, the facilities are one of the best I have ever seen, and the program is just known for winning. Also, the coaches made me feel really comfortable on campus.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Solomon: Walsh, Mount Union, and John Carroll
PBR: Where did Coach Pettorini and his coaches first see you?
Solomon: In the winter, I attended a hitting camp at Wooster and we
have been in touch ever since.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Solomon: We haven't discussed my role, but I know I will strive to be my best and be the hardest worker to earn time.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Solomon: Strongsville Dirtbags Post 795
PBR: What sort of sacrifices did you have to make to play a travel intensive schedule during the summer?? What sort of advice would you pass on to players looking to make the same decision?
Solomon: I can't work a summer job. We have lots of fundraising involved. Actually, this year we have been invited to play in Alaska to compete with Alaska's best Legion teams and four other Legion teams invited from the lower 48 states. To other players, make sure you find the best fit and always remember that education is important.
PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Solomon: Making the American Legion Ohio State tournament two summers in a row. This year, we have our most loaded team in Dirtbag History.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Solomon: My grandfather. During my 8th grade season, he suffered a heart attack. He was more upset with not being able to watch me play instead of his heart attack. Ever since then, I put his initials on my
helmet.
PBR: What were your stats last spring season at Independence?
Solomon: .463 batting average, .746 slugging %, .591 on base %, 4 doubles, 3 triples, 3 homeruns, 20 RBI's.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Solomon: Ryan Moss from Beachwood.
