May 7, 2012
Maurice McPherson, OF, Whetstone HS
PBR: Why did you choose Shawnee State?
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
McPherson: Mount Vernon Nazarene was the first school that contacted me. I visit OSU- Lima. I also received some late contact from Marietta. I was recruited by also Marietta, Baldwin-Wallace, Wooster, Wittenberg, Bluffton, and Ohio Wesleyan for football, and I met with their baseball coaches during football visits.
PBR: Where did the SSU coaches first see you?
McPherson: I went to a couple camps they were at. Mannino's fall showcase, a Tiffin camp in the fall, and the Unsigned Senior showcase. Following the Unsigned Senior showcase was the first time they contacted me.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
McPherson: I'll be on campus next year as a pitcher. They're graduating their top pitchers this year so there will be some spots in the rotation and bullpen.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
McPherson: Central Ohio Cuda
PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?
McPherson: Playing in the Buckeye Elite tournament.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
McPherson: Larry Peck, my first coach who convinced me to start playing baseball when I was ten, and all of my coaches I have had up until now.
PBR: What were your stats last spring season at Whetstone?
McPherson: I'm batting .471 right now with 2 homeruns, 4 doubles, and 3 triples. I haven't been pitching a lot, but I will this Summer.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
McPherson: I'd have to say it's a tie between Jacob Niggemeyer from Kilbourne and Jensen-Clagg from Pick Central.
