Q and A with Ohio Commit: Ty Black (Waynesville HS)
August 5, 2012
Ty Black, INF, Waynesville HS, Class of 2013
PBR: Why did you choose Ohio University?
Black: OU was a great fit. The campus is amazing and the new coaching staff is going to bring high energy and really push me as hard as I can.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Black: Xavier, Wright State, Evansville, Ohio State, Tennessee Tech, Northern Kentucky
PBR: Coach Smith was just recently hired at OU. How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?
Black: It is an honor. Coach Smith is just the type of coach I want to spend my college career with!
PBR: Where did the Bobcat coaches first see you?
Black: At the CABA World Series in Euclid. It was our very last tournament of the season.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Black: I will have a very good opportunity to win a starting position at shortstop.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Black: Ohio Heat
PBR: What sort of sacrifices did you have to make to play a travel intensive schedule during the summer? What sort of advice would you pass on to players looking to make the same decision?
Black: The main sacrifice is that I rarely get to see the rest of my family because I am always traveling. I also have to miss quite a bit of football. For future players, I would tell them to see as many schools as possible and figure out exactly where the best fit is.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Black: Bill Doran Sr. This man taught me so much about baseball and life.
PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Waynesville?
Black: At Waynesville, I batted around .460 and for summer ball around .410
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Black: Robbins, he plays for the Midland Redskins.
