Q and A with 2015 Ohio State Commit: Azim Qadri (Walsh Jesuit HS)

Azim QadriAzim Qadri, OF, Walsh Jesuit HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose OSU?

Qadri: I choose OSU because it was the right fit for not only myself but for my family. It is not too far away from home which gives my parents the chance to come to games. From the time I walked on campus I knew it was the right fit for me academically and for my baseball career. Coach Beals and the coaching staff were all very welcoming and made the decision easier on me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Qadri: I was considering Akron, Kent, and Wayne State.

PBR: Where did Coach Beals first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Qadri: Coach Beals first saw me at the Walsh Jesuit showcase for the cure. My relationship with the coach’s relationship grew from when we met at the Showcase and over phone calls.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Qadri: The coaches expect me to work as hard as I can to be the best I can. They want me to utilize the facilities they have to grow as a player and to be competitive along with all of the other players on the team.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Qadri: I play for the Midwest Pelicans and my most memorable experience was winning the All Prospect World Series at Kent State.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Qadri: I expected it to be as hard as it was. You never know who is watching and you have to give it your all every day on the field. Although it was long and hard, it was well worth it.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Qadri: My father has had the biggest impact in me as a baseball player. Since I was young he has always pushed me to be the best I can be. From coaching to instructing he always worked hard to make sure I was a good player.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Walsh Jesuit?

Qadri: BA: 386. AB: 57. Hits: 22. Runs: 17. 2B: 5. OB%: .514.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Qadri: Ty Shoaff is the toughest pitcher I have faced.
