November 16, 2012
Blaine Griffiths, OF, Lakota West HS, Class of 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Xavier?
Griffiths: I chose Xavier for its strong academic and baseball programs. After visiting the campus multiple times, I knew that it was the right fit for me.
PBR: Xavier is very close to home. How much of a role did that play in your decision?
Griffiths: It played a big role in my decision making. I knew that I didn't want to go to far from home.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Griffiths: Since September, I have heard from over 30 schools from Ivy League, Big East, MAC, A-10, horizon, etc. My decision came between University of Cincinnati and Xavier.
PBR: Where did Coach Googins first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Griffiths: The Xavier coaching staff first saw me down in Ft. Myers for the PG WWBA. Since then we kept in touch and I went on a visit soon after.
PBR: You are only a Junior, why did you decide to make your decision so early? Are you finished with the recruiting process?
Griffiths: I made my decision because I knew that Xavier was the school that I could see myself at for 4 years. And yes, I feel that my recruiting process is done.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Griffiths: The coaches expect me to come in and make an impact my first year on campus. They expect me to come in and compete for a spot in the outfield.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Griffiths: I honestly didn't know what to expect. Luckily, everything fell in to place and I found the school that I really liked.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Griffiths: My family had the biggest impact on me as baseball player. Especially my Dad, who helped me make a lot of decisions in my life including many baseball decisions.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Griffiths: Zack Shannon. He's a tough pitcher to face as a hitter.
