PBR: Why did you choose Tiffin?
Benner: The first time I visited the campus I just got this feeling like this is the place for me. I was also really impressed with Coach Wilkins and his staff. I like the direction he has taken the program.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Benner: My top 3 choices were Tiffin, Heidelberg, and Mount Union.
PBR: Where did Tiffin first see you compete?
Benner: Walsh Jesuit Baseball Showcase for the Cure
PBR: Coach Wilkins has brought a lot of excitement to the Dragon baseball program in his first full season. What are some of the skills that you will bring to the table at Tiffin?
Benner: I hope to help the team with my arm strength, strong work ethic & positive attitude.
PBR: What kind of role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Benner: After talking with Coach Wilkins they see me in a closer role, a 2-3 inning pen guy that can throw multiple days for short bursts and contribute a couple of times per week.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Benner: My family has had a huge impact. Their love for the game, the opportunities they were able to provide and the support along the way all played an important role. Coach Kaczmar has also been a big impact over the last four years. I feel I've matured greatly with his guidance, on and off the field.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of such a traditional baseball powerhouse such as Walsh Jesuit?
Benner: Coach Kaczmar and his staff have set the standards high. It has been an honor to be a part of the Walsh Jesuit baseball family over the past four years.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience?
Benner: I currently play for the Ohio Yankees for Coach Gregory Issacs. My most exciting summer experience was 2 years ago when I traveled to Alaska to play in two American Legion tournaments.
PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Walsh Jesuit?
Benner: ERA 1.75, App. 12, IP 16, Saves 3, SO 21, Opp Avg .196
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Benner: Drew Lakos who graduated from Hoban last year is the toughest pitcher that i have pitched against.
