Q and A with 2014 Mars Hills (NC) Commit: Ricky Silvestri (CHCA)
September 11, 2013
Ricky Silvestri, 3B/1B, CHCA, Class of 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Mars Hill?
Silvestri: I loved the atmosphere of the school. Coach Rembert and Coach Henson are straight shooters so I will always know where I stand with them. Coach Rembert is changing the culture at Mars Hill and I’m excited that I get to be a part of that.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Silvestri: Some smaller Division II schools around the Ohio and Indiana area.
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Silvestri: Coach Henson first saw me at a Gardner Webb camp. I went on a visit when I was returning home and we talked for about 2 weeks before they offered me.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Silvestri: Coach Rembert expects me to work hard and have an immediate impact my first year on campus.
PBR: Mars Hill is a Division II school in North Carolina. How much of a role did playing in the South have in your decision?
Silvestri: The location of Mars Hill is ideal. They play southern baseball, but they are also in a small town about 20 minutes outside of the bigger city of Asheville, NC.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Silvestri: I play for Cincinnati Baseball Club. My most memorable experiences was playing with one of my best friends, Kyle Davis, and pushing each other to be better. We are both very competitive and we would have little competitions to make each other better. He’s improved my game a lot.
PBR: Your high school has very talented group of returnees for this spring. What are your teams expectations going into the season?
Silvestri: We have a lot of returning talent from last year, we have gained experience. With that experience we have learned that we have to take the season one inning and one out at a time to reach our goals. We can’t just look towards the end goal or it is a lot harder to get tripped up.
PBR: What were your stats for last spring season at CHCA?
Silvestri: I’m not exactly sure of my high school stats
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Silvestri: Cameron Varga.
