Q and A with 2014 Lake Erie Commit: Wes Birchmeier (Miamisburg HS)

Wes Birchmeier, SS, Miamisburg HS, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose Lake Erie?

Birchmeier: I chose Lake Erie because I love the school and I feel that I can succeed there as a student and an athlete.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Birchmeier: I was considering Ashland University and Marietta College as well.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Birchmeier: The coaches first saw me at a PBR event and then came to see me play in the Best of the Midwest tournament. My relationship with the staff is very strong, I feel very comfortable talking with Coach McGee and the other assistants not only about baseball but also about other topics in my life. Coach McGee really invested his time and efforts into getting to know me on a personal level which meant a lot to me.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Birchmeier: I think they expect me to bounce around the infield and really learn from some of the veterans on the team.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Lake Eire baseball?

Birchmeier: I think my biggest strength as a player is my hitting ability. And I think that I can help Lake Erie in pinch hitting situations and maybe moving around positions to help the team in different areas.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Birchmeier: I played with the Dayton Dodgers last summer. The most memorable moment was making it to the championship game in the Sandlot World Series in Nashville, Tennessee.

PBR: What were your stats for last spring season at Miamisburg?

Birchmeier: At Miamisburg I batted .406 with 1 Homerun, 4 doubles, and 2 triples. I was also named to the 1st Team GWOC South.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Birchmeier: Toughest pitcher I have faced in Ohio has to be Wes Noble from Lebanon High School.
