Q and A with 2013 Stanford Commit: Griffin Weir (Amherst Steele HS)

Griffin Weir, RHP, Amherst Steele HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Stanford?

Weir: I chose Stanford because I feel it is the best option in the country for both baseball and academics.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Weir:  North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Cincinnati.

PBR: Where did the Stanford coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Weir: I reached out to them in the winter and sent some video.  They responded with interest afterward and they were able to make the trip out to see me just recently.  The coaches and I had been in contact about once a week or so and was able to make a visit in the spring and kept in touch.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Weir: It wasn't really a factor since Stanford had always been a dream school. It's kind of a home away from home because I have a lot of relatives in the Palo Alto area.

PBR:  You recently attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase.  How did that help you in the recruiting process?

Weir: After not pitching much during high school, the showcase really allowed me to showoff to a ton of coaches that my arm was back to normal and healthy.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Weir: Talking to the coaches, they feel I can improve on some things, work on some things, then come spring season have a chance to hog up some innings.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Weir: I knew it was going to be a grind, and it was, but overall it was a good experience.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Weir: My brother has.  He's helped me with pitching, hitting, training, everything really.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Amherst Steele?

Weir: Pitching- 1 game, 4 innings/ Hitting .422/.530/1.124

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Weir: The whole 18u Ohio Elite team
