Q and A with 2014 Kent State Commit: Eli Kraus (Buckeye HS)
February 10, 2013
Eli Kraus, LHP, Buckeye HS, Class of 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Kent State?
Kraus: I chose Kent State because it was truly a home away from home. They have amazing coaches, great facilities, my intended major, and a successful baseball team. The fact that it's only 50 minutes from my house is icing on the cake.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Kraus: I was considering University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University, Wright State University, and the University of Evansville.
PBR: Where did Kent State first see you compete?
Kraus: Kent State first saw me play in a regular season game in my sophomore summer against the Midwest Pelicans.
PBR: You are only a Junior, how important was it to make you college decision so early? Are you finished with the recruiting process?
Kraus: It was important to make an early decision to me. It relieves so much pressure and allows me to focus on getting stronger and bigger without worrying about getting seen. And yes, I am done with the recruiting process.
PBR: Kent State went to the College World Series last year. How important of a factor did this play in your final decision?
Kraus: Kent State going to the College World Series played a part in my decision, but my decision wasn't based off of their World Series appearance. They've always been a great baseball program and their tradition and outstanding coaches is what truly attracted me.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Kent State?
Kraus: I believe my biggest asset to Kent State is my ability to adjust. I learned at an early age that there is always someone bigger, faster, and stronger, and the only way to beat them is to adjust.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Kraus: The person who has impacted me most as a ball player is definitely Bob Beck. He is the head coach of the 18u North Coast Vipers and coached me for three years. He taught me the ins and the outs of the game and showed me what it means to be a true baseball player.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable baseball experience?
Kraus: I currently play for the Midwest Pelicans. My most memorable baseball experience was when my 16u summer team won a tournament at UC on a walk off hit.
PBR: What were you stats last spring for Buckeye?
Kraus: In high school last year, I was 4-3 with a 2.68 ERA and 67 strikeouts.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Kraus: The toughest hitter I've ever faced is Cassidy Brown. I'm lucky to be on his team so I don't have to face him anymore.
