March 25, 2013
Max Lyon, OF/RHP, St. Francis DeSales HS, Class of 2013
PBR: Why did you choose John Carroll?
Lyon: I really liked the coaching staff and they did a great job of keeping in touch with me. The academics at John Carroll are excellent and they play in one of the most competitive DIII conferences in the country.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Lyon: Adrian; Alderson-Broaddus; Wayne State
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Lyon: PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase in December. I went on a couple visits and an overnight. Coach Thibeault and Coach Weeks did a great job of keeping in touch with me over the last couple months.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Lyon: Being a dual role player OF/P, they are going to want to see where I would be the best fit. Hopefully once I get comfortable I can see some playing time immediately.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help John Carroll baseball?
Lyon: I'm very competitive and will fight for playing time. I'm versatile and can play almost anywhere they have an immediate need. I'm young and will continue to get faster and stronger.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Lyon: NWO Outlaws (Tyler Kottenbrock - coach). I was picked up, along with some team-mates to play with the Tipp City Lumber at the National Wood Bat Tournament in Cincinnati. I threw a 1 hitter in the Semi-Final (5 inning mercy rule). Then started the Final an hour later and threw a 2 hitter in the final.
PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team for the rest of your senior season?
Lyon: Individually I would like to be named 1st team All City / All District. For the team I would like to make it down to Columbus!
PBR: What were your stats for last spring season at St. Francis DeSales?
Lyon: .350 BA / 26 RBI's / 1 HR / 6-3 2.15 ERA. 2nd Team All TRAC, 2nd Team All District.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Lyon: Jesse Adams (Now playing for Boston College); Robert Zeigler - Defiance (Kentucky commit)
