TOP 2013 PROSPECTS FROM THE SOUTHERN OHIO OPEN ID

Devon Fisk, OF, Pickerington Central, Class of 2013
6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect with lanky, athletic frame. Registered a 7.16 60-yard dash. Uses long, loose arm action through a high ¾ arm slot in the outfield. Reaches top velocity of 85 mph. Shows good actions and plays through the ball. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses a slightly open stance with a smooth load. He uses a short stride. Shows a fluid rhythm to his load. Produces line drives and use the whole field.

Derek Moore, RHP, Wheelersburg, Class of 2013
6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed pitcher with solid, thick build. Possess strong lower-half. Uses quick arm speed through a high ¾ to over the top slot. Shows some effort to his delivery. Fastball sits 80-83 mph. He uses a soft, 12/6 curveball with some depth. It sits at 57 mph, but he tends to slow down his arm action. His changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed and sits between 70-73 mph. It shows some arm side fade. He also uses a 60 mph knuckle ball that has some life.

Jake Newton, OF/IF/RHP, Bloom Carroll, Class of 2013
6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect with athletic build. Registered a 7.03 60-yard dash. Likely projects as an outfielder at the next level. Uses short arm action with quick transfer to reach top velocity of 81 mph. Needs to improve playing through the ball. In the infield, he shows some athletic actions and a quick transfer. Will improve as he polishes up his glove work and route to the ball. Reaches a top velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, he uses a wide stance with a crouch. Shows some strength in his bands and line drive production. On the mound, the right-handed pitcher throws from a high ¾ arm slot. His delivery requires some effort. His fastball sat 77-79 mph. His curveball sat 61-64 mph with 11/5 break. His changeup sat 65-67 mph, but he tends to slow down his arm action. His slider is 64 mph with a small bite.

Zane Bierman, C/1B, Clermont Northeastern, Class of 2013
5-foot-11, 195-pound prospect with athletic build. Registered a 7.56 60-yard dash. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 71 mph. His pop time sat between 2.16 to 2.26. Will improve as glove to hand exchange gets better. At the plate, he uses a tall, balanced stance. He shows some raw power at the plate with quick bat speed. Takes uphill path to the ball. Tends to dive on to front side, which creates some balance issues. With improved balance throughout his swing, he shows a solid bat.

Daniel Kirchner, OF/IF, Olentangy Liberty, Class of 2014
5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect with athletic build. Registered a 7.02 60-yard dash. In the outfield, he shows short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. He uses quick, fluid footwork and plays through the ball. Reached a top velocity of 85 mph with some carry on his throws. Also shows the potential to play the infield with good hands and athletic actions. Needs to improve transfer and exchange. Reached a top velocity of 79 mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a narrow stance with a slight crouch. Takes a slight uphill path to the ball with above average bat speed.

Nate Arnett, IF/RHP, Lucasville Valley, Class of 2014
6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect with athletic, solid build. Registered a 7.09 60-yard dash. Likely projects as a corner infielder or outfielder at the next level. From the outfield, he uses long arm action through a ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 78 mph. He needs to improve his exchange and transfer. In the infield, he needs to improve the fluidity of his actions as he can be stiff at times. He reached a top velocity of 79 mph across the infield. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses rotational mechanics. Shows balance and a short stride. Displays a simple load with a short, level path to the ball. Produces hard line drives with some power. On the mound, he uses a slow rhythm. He comes through a high ¾ arm angle. His fastball sits 77-79 mph. His curveball sits 69-70 with late, 11/5 break. His changeup shows some fade and sits 74-75.

AJ Kazmierczak, C/3B, Westfall, Class of 2013
5-foot-11, 160-pound prospect with athletic frame. Registered a 7.72 60-yard dash. As an infielder, he shows average hands and footwork. Tends to field the ball deep and reaches a top velocity of 66 mph across the infield. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 67 mph with pop times between 2.28-2.38. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in a crouch. He uses a short stride and tends to cast his hands post-load. He takes a flat path to the ball and shows opposite field tendencies in his swing.

Brody Shoupe, C, Portsmouth, Class of 2016
5-foot-7, 145-pound catching prospect. Registered a 7.5 60-yard dash. Will continue to mature and develop. Needs to improve glove-to-hand exchange behind the plate. Reached top velocity of 69 mph from the crouch. Registered pop times of 2.26-2.44. At the plate, he uses a short stride with some balance. He takes a short, downward path to the ball.

Bryce Arledge, LHP, Unioto, Class of 2013
6-foot-3, 200-pound southpaw with solid frame. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat 77-78 mph with some late cutting action. His curveball sits 66-69 mph with 2/8 break. Tends to get on the side of it at times, which creates some flatness. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm action and sits 73-74 mph. Will improve velocity with enhancement of lower-half. Doesn’t maximize torque.

Caleb Leslie, IF, Unioto, Class of 2013
5-foot-10, 165-pound infielder. Registered a 7.57 60-yard dash. Shows good actions in the field, but needs to consistently play through the ball. Uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 74 mph. Shows above average hands with a quick exchange and transfer. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a short stride. He is a contact hitter. His bat speed will improve as he loosens up and eliminates the baring action in his load.

Cody Hendershot, OF, Southeastern, Class of 2015
5-foot-6, 135-pound outfield prospect. Registered a 7.75 60-yard dash. Shows athletic actions in the field. Uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Plays through the ball. Arm strength should improve as he physically develops. Reached a top velocity of 69 mph. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. He is heavy on his backside. Needs to improve use of lower-half to improve torque. He is a contact type hitter with opposite field tendencies.

Dante Brammer, 1B/OF/LHP, Trimble Local, Class of 2016
5-foot-8, 145-pound prospect. Registered a 8.47 60-yard dash. Likely suited for first base at the next level, but still has time to physically develop and improve speed and actions. Did not pitch at this event, but shows potential with arm action across the infield. Reached a top velocity of 68 mph. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts with a closed stance. He shows good torque with the lower-half. Takes a slight uphill path to the ball with above average bat speed. Overall fluid rhythm to his swing.

Gary Sunday, C, Amelia, Class of 2014
5-foot-10, 205-pound catching prospect with soft frame. Reaches a top velocity of 69 mph from the crouch. Pop times registered between 2.44-2.54. At the plate, he uses a toe tap in his load. Starts with an open stance. Tends to leak with the front side, which causes the bat to drag at times. Shows average bat speed with opposite field tendencies.

Jeremy Brinegar, IF/RHP, Walter E. Stebbins, Class of 2013
Smallish build player with good baseball sense. Needs to continue improving strength and speed (7.69 60 yard time). Defensively, shows good hands and feet with arm strength. Good bat trigger offensively, makes contact. On the mound has moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Uses inward front side turn. Will drop arm slot to cut ball. Fastball 77-79 mph some feel for off speed. Uses change up at 65-66 mph but needs to gain more feel and velocity on curve (56-58 mph). Cutter/slider has some bite at 71 mph.

Jeremy Randolph, RHP/3B, Miamisburg, Class of 2014
5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect with solid build. Registered a 7.69 60-yard dash. Uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Shows some strength to his throws. Reaches top velocity of 76 mph. Needs to improve transfer and exchange. Overall, athletic player with above average infield skills. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a slightly open stance with a long stride. Needs to control front side. Shows pull tendencies in his swing with line drive production. On the mound, he throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball ranges 78-80 mph with some arm side run. Curveball is 66-68 mph, but needs to improve command. Changeup is 70-71 mph and thrown near fastball arm speed, but tends to be straight.

Luke Albu, IF, Upper Arlington, Class of 2014
5-foot-9, 160-pound infield prospect with small, athletic frame. Registered 7.56 60-yard dash (needs to improve). Projects as a second baseman at the next level. Shows good actions with above average hands and foot work. Uses short arm action and throws through a high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 65 mph. at the plate, he hits from both sides. He uses a similar setup on both sides with a wide base, rotational mechanics, and line drive type production. Showed more power from the right-side.

Morgan Rankey, IF/OF, Olentangy Liberty, Class of 2014
6-foot-1, 165-pound prospect. From the outfield, he shows short arm action through a ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 75 mph. Needs to play through the ball. Accuracy will improve as he controls front side. In the infield, he plays through the ball and shows some potential while reaching a top velocity of 73 mph with his throws. At the plate, he starts with a tall, upright stance. Uses a big load with lots of movement in his hands. Triggers swing with a toe tap and small leg kick. 

Quintin Fettes, C/IF, Cambridge, Class of 2013
5-foot-8, 151-pound prospect with smallish build. Use short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reaches top velocity of 71 mph. Projects as a second baseman, but needs to improve hands. Behidn the plate, he reaches a top velocity of 67 mph with pop times between 2.25-2.58. Will improve times as transfer and exchange improve. At the plate, he is a contact type hitter. Uses athletic setup. Tends to bar arm in his load, which produces opposite field tendencies in his swing.

Will Howard, P/OF, Valley, Class of 2013
6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect with tall, solid build. Registered a 7.39 60-yard dash. From the outfield, he uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot while reaching a top velocity of 77 mph. Needs to consistently play through the baseball. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a tall, upright stance with his front foot slightly open. He takes a short, downward path to the ball from a back shoulder trigger. Produces consistent line drives and shows some potential at the plate. On the mound, the southpaw shows some effort to his delivery. His fastball sits 76-79 mph. his curveball sits 63-65 mph with gradual 1/7 break. He also uses a straight 73 mph changeup.

Trenton Downs, 3B/RHP, Zane Trace, Class of 2013
6-foot, 180-pound prospect. Registered a 8.52 60-yard dash. In the field, he throws from a low ¾ arm slot with long arm action. Needs to improve routes to the ball. Reached a top velocity of 70 mph across the infield. At the plate, he shows a wide base with a slightly open stance. Uses a short stride, but tends to get heavy on his front side. Shows pull tendencies in his swing. On the mound, his fastball sits 75-78 mph. his curveball sits at 63 mph with some gradual 12/6 movement. His changeup is sits at 70, but he tends to slow down his arm action. His slider shows slurvey type action and sits 63-65 mph.

Tyler Page, OF/IF, West Carrollton, Class of 2014
5-foot-10, 155-pound prospect with athletic frame. Registered a 7.10 60-yard dash. In the field, he uses short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot to reach a top velocity of 77 mph. Will improve as he becomes more aggressive to the ball and improves his footwork. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open setup with a wide base. Load tends to get long with some baring of his arm. Will improve consistency as his load simplifies. Shows above average bat speed with some pull power.
