The result is a commitment to Cincinnati for the incoming senior at Hamilton. “I had a lot of discussion with my family,” explained Pennington, who six weeks ago decommitted from Charleston Southern. “I’m really family oriented and being 11 hours away, and they were not having the season I thought.” West Virginia, Ohio U, Wright State and UAB all showed an interest, in addition to Cincinnati, in the 44th-rated player in Ohio’s 2019 class once the decommitment took place. “My high school coach (Danny Reid) has good rapport with (Cincinnati head) coach (Scott) Googins,” Pennington said “After I decommitted they started up contact.” Cincinnati ended up being the lone visit the 5-10 155-pounder took during his second recruiting process. “I really liked the coaching staff and how close they were to each other,” Pennington said of what stood out. “Being a family guy, I liked how it was only 30 minutes away. The campus was beautiful and the baseball facilities were nice. That was icing on top.” |
