DEFIANCE- In game two of the Strike Out Cancer event at Booster Field, Bryan and Bowling Green paired off and the teams didn't disappoint.
Senior Mason Mayberry went 4 strong innings for Bowling Green (5-3) allowing just 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Mayberry's fastball sat in the low to mid-80s, hitting 85 a few times.
With Bowling Green up 7-2, coach Josh Iler elected to put in Reid Mankowski to pitch and the move nearly backfired for the Bobcats. The Golden Bears (4-1) rallied to score four runs in the 5th to cut the deficit to 7-6.
After a quick 6th inning, coach Iler brought in left-hander Andy Fisher, whose fastball was clocked in the low-80s.
Senior shortstop Matt Chaney started off the Bryan 7th with a sharp single, followed by a sacrifice bunt. This brought up junior Dexter Ridgway who ripped a hard ground ball single to left in which head coach Jeff Inselmann elected to hold the runner at third.
However, with the tying run on third Justin Watts hit a shot directly at third baseman Andrew Harrington, who caught the ball and stepped on third for the game-ending double play.
Bowling Green's next contest will come on the road against Northern Lakes League's Southview.
