DEFIANCE- It was a little odd watching high school baseball teams wear pink, but it was for a good cause. On Saturday at Booster Field in Defiance all three teams wore pink in support of cancer awareness weekend. The Strike Out Cancer event looked to be a huge success as the stands were full for all three games.

In the opener Defiance jumped all over Bowling Green (4-3) and Michigan recruit, Daniel McKinney and didn't let the senior right-hander off the hook. In the second inning and down 1-0, the Bulldogs pounded out five hits and were helped by 3 walks, 2 hit by pitches and an error to score 8 runs. The Bulldogs didn't stop there as Defiance scored 3 more in the 4th en route to an 11-1 victory.

McKinney was knocked out of the game before the 2nd inning was complete, going. just 1 1/3 inning allowing 5 hits, 4 walks and 2 HBP, while striking out two. McKinney was consistently in the mid to upper-80s on his fastball, sitting around 87. He had a sharp breaking curveball that he was unable to locate.

“I felt we beat a very good BG team and also was able to get to one of the better pitchers in northwest Ohio and the state in Dan McKinney,” said Defiance coach Tom Held. “He had some tough luck with the high sky and we too advantage of that.”

Anthony Kidston was on base three times, including 2 singles and an RBI for the Bulldogs.

Six-foot senior Tyler Batt had an impressive performance on the mound for the Bulldogs. Batt went all 5 innings allowing just 2 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 2.
