PBR Spotlight Game: Olentangy vs. Olentangy Liberty

By Travis Cox

Crosstown rivals Olentangy and Olentangy Liberty decided to travel down to Ohio State’s Bill Davis Stadium to showcase their talents.  First year Olentangy Braves coach, Ryan Lucas chose to throw unsigned senior Casey Stanley, while Liberty coach Ty Brenning sent 2014 Ohio State commit Jacob Niggemeyer to the hill.

The Braves were on the board in the top of the first, when leadoff hitter Christian Brett (pictured) hit a triple to the right center gap.  He would soon score on a fielder’s choice by Griffin Brinkley.

Olentangy kept the lead at 1-0 until the third inning.  Led again by single from Brett, the Braves followed with 3 more singles by Binkley, Tim Feasel and Joe McGuinness.  Compiled with a few Patriot errors the score grew to a 4-0 Olentangy lead.

For the next three innings both pitchers threw scoreless innings.  Niggemeyer lighting up the radar gun with his fastball, while Stanley was keeping hitters of balance with a mix of curveballs and changeups.

In the top of the seventh the Braves were able to knock Niggemeyer off the mound as Stanley led off the inning with a double.  The rest of frame contained three more hits and a few walks, which led to five more runs and a 9-0 lead.

However, the Patriots were not ready to quit.  In the bottom of the seventh they would reach the scoreboard when junior Daniel Kirchner had an RBI triple.  Two batters later sophomore Cameron Comer would rip a triple to the left field gap to make the score 9-3.  But the rally would end there.

Liberty was paced at the plate by Niggemeyer who was 2 for 3 with a walk.  On the mound he sat down six Braves swinging..

The stars of the night were Braves seniors Brett and Stanley.  Brett was 3 for 3 with a single, double and triple with three runs scored.  Stanley threw 6 and two thirds innings scattering seven hits including 10 strikeouts.
