PBR Spotlight Game. No. 3 Ontario continues to roll against Bucyrus

By Matthew Lee

What a week for Coach Dan Gorbett and his Division III No. 3 ranked Ontario Warriors.

After capturing consecutive wins against Galion for the NCC title on Wednesday and Thursday night, the Warriors faced off against Bucyrus on Friday night for the sectional title and an opportunity to move on to district play at Heidelberg University next week.

In the first inning, Bucyrus junior Williams hit the first pitch into the gap for a lead off double. Ontario’s ace Mitch McCrystal buckled down and was able to get out of the inning with a pop up and two ground balls.

In the bottom half, the Warriors wasted little time get to the senior Howard who was on the mound for Bucyrus. Senior Drew Steinhour led off with a single and moved to 2nd base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Kyle Pasheilich. Junior Tyler Beal singled and stole 2nd base to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Junior Wyatt Clemens lined a 2-run single to put Ontario up 2-0.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Ontario sophomore Tyler Gorbett hit a 1-out double and advanced to 3rd base on a wild pitch. Gorbett came home to score on a grounder to 3rd off the bat of freshman Paul Homan to make it a 3-0 game.

In the bottom of the 4th, McCrystal led off with a single and moved to 2nd base on a sacrifice bunt. After junior Vinnie Sansalone reached base on an error, Homan lined a 2-run single to put Ontario up 5-0.

Bucyrus was able to make some noise in the top half of the 6th.  Three straight singles to start the frame off the bats of Angler, Howard, and Koiner loaded the bases with 0 outs. McCrystal struck out the next batter and then got a force out at home for the 2nd out of the inning. With the bases still loaded, freshman Hollis singled to plate Howard and make it a 5-1 game. Wendling flew to left to end the threat.

That is the way the game ended, as Ontario’s perfect season continues and advances to play Milan Edison in district play next week at Heidelberg University.

McCrystal went the distance picking up his 10th win of the season striking out five and hitting two batters. He scattered eight hits and one run. Ontario runs their record to 25-0.
