Early Saturday morning the (4-6) Oakwood Lumberjacks from the SWBL, took on the (5-8) West Carrollton Pirates out of the GWOC. Oakwood went on to get the 11-7 victory. The pitching for both schools had a rough day as the slugfest had two home runs and nine extra base hits.
In the top of the first Oakwood started fast behind unsigned senior Markus Neff (pictured right) who left the park for the first time this season in left field to give the lumberjacks a 2-0 lead. The Pirates answered right back as 2016 outfielder Tyler Wilson and unsigned senior Mikel Merker had back to back 2 out doubles to get West Carrollton on the board. After an Oakwood error West Carrollton tied the game at two heading into the second frame.
The bottom of the second started with a bang as 2015 first baseman Marshall Kirbabas launched a home run over the left field fence to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead.
Oakwood responded in the third as they started the rally with both Neff and UD recruit Alec Mueller reaching safely; this set the table for senior centerfielder Chase Randolph who had a two rbi double putting Oakwood back ahead 4-3.
This time is was the Pirates turn to respond and they did so in the bottom of the third. Trevor Leon led off the third with a triple and Wilson reached on a base on balls. Both came around to score on wild pitches giving the Pirates the lead 5-4.
In the fourth, Oakwood exploded as six lumberjacks reached base including three consecutive doubles by 2015 second baseman Spencer Howell, Neff, and Mueller. Oakwood, now up 8-5 would go on to win 11-7.
Oakwood was led by senior Markus Neff (2-3 with a home run, double and three runs batted in), Alec Mueller (2-4, double, rs, rbi), and (marietta football recruit) Chase Randolph (2-4 2 runs batted in).
West Carrollton was led by sophomore Tyler Wilson (1-2, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RS, and 2 SB) and senior Mikel Merker (2-3, 2B, BB, RS, RBI).
