MASON, OH - Prasco Park (home of PBR Ohio's Top Prospect Games) hosted the top ten division I match-up under the lights between the Lakota West Firebirds and the Mason Comets.

Two extremely talented pitchers took the mound in this matchup.  Mason handed the ball to right handed pitcher Rodney Hutchison (North Carolina Commit), while Lakota West turned to senior southpaw Grant Schuermann (Furman Commit).

Everything pointed to this game being a pitchers duel, and that is exactly how the game started. Through the first two innings both pitchers faced the minimum six batters.  Schuermann (pictured right) totaled four strikeouts, while Hutchison totaled three.

In the third inning, the both lineups started to make some noise.

Mason was able to load the bases with two outs as all three runners reached by walk, but had nothing to show for it, as Firebirds pitcher Schuermann shut the door.

The Firebirds did all their damage in the bottom half of the third.  Lakota West received clutch RBI singles by both leadoff hitter Austin Allinger (2 for 3; 2 singles), and Sophomore Justin Moyer (2 for 3; 2 singles).  Lakota West added a final run of the inning when Xavier Commit Blaine Griffiths walked with the bases loaded giving the Firebirds a 3-0 lead.

Grant Schuermann was locked in on the mound throwing no hit ball, and three runs looked enough for Lakota West to escape with a win.

After working a quick sixth inning, Schuermann stepped back out to the mound in the seventh with his no hitter still in tact.

The Comets first two hitters in the seventh went down quickly, and Schuermann needed one more out to finish his complete game no hit bid.  Mason's nine-hole hitter Connor Osborn broke up the no hitter singling to left, which woke up the Comet bats.  Connor Bryan smoked a triple to deep center field, and came around to score on a Chris Martin single.

Lakota West made a call to the bullpen bringing in Aaron Bruch in hopes to get out of the jam.  Bruch was able to induce Senior TJ Dunn into popping up a fly ball to right, giving the Firebirds a confidence boosting 3-2 victory.

Schuermann finished the day with nine strikeouts through 6 2/3 innings.
