PBR Spotlight Game: No. 41 Perrysburg at Napoleon

By Dylan Hefflinger

NAPOLEON-  Perrysburg, Division I state runners-up last year, traveled to take on Napoleon, a Division II regional team a year ago playing in the Northern Lakes League for the first time.

With both already at one loss in NLL play, plenty was at stake. In the end, Perrysburg pulled away for a 16-6 victory.

Napoleon's Dylan Glass shut down Perrysburg the first time through the lineup, going 1-2-3 in each of the first three innings. Glass' fastball sat in the low 80s, with a nice sharp breaking ball in the mid 60s that resulted in four called third strikes in the first three frames.

But the Yellow Jackets' offense made an adjustment in the 4th inning, breaking through for six runs by using a more disciplined approach at the plate. Hunter Smith, Miami of Ohio recruit, had the key hit, a 2-run home run to deep right.

Sophomore Mark Delas was on the mound for Perrysburg and also cruised through the first 3 innings, hitting 83-85 consistently on his fastball. But the right-hander was also touched up in the 4th. The damage was not his fault, however, as his defense fell apart in the frame committing 4 errors in the inning. Napoleon senior Collin Parcher produced the biggest hit driving in 2 with a double to deep right-center helping the Wildcats to a six-spot tying the game.

It was all Napoleon could get, however, with junior Nick Munger coming in to shut down the Wildcats the rest of the way.

That was not the case when Perrysburg was at bat, with the Yellow Jackets following up the big 4th inning with a huge 5th, scoring 10 in the frame. Smith came up to bat twice in the inning and hit the ball well both times, an RBI single the first time up and an opposite field triple in his second, showing off his wheels on the three-bagger.

Smith finished the game a double short of the cycle, and had 5 RBI on the day.

Perrysburg's (7-2-2) game with Archbold on Saturday was cancelled due to rain and rescheduled for April 28. The Yellow Jackets, rated 41st, go on the road against 6-2 Bowling Green and Michigan recruit Daniel McKinney in their next NLL game slated Monday.

Napoleon (4-6) will host number 9 ranked Lima Bath (10-2) on Saturday.
