Ohio Insider: Summer Showcase Breakout Performers

Since the conclusion of the Ohio High School season, we at PBR Ohio have been blessed with the chance to see so much outstanding talent throughout the Buckeye State. There have been 20 showcases since the end of May and we have seen a plethora of talented arms, bats, gloves and athletes.

Below we would like to highlight 10 of the breakout performers for the Summer of 2017.

Gavin Bruni LHP / OF / Alliance, OH / 2021

Rankings State Rank:1 POS:1 Overall Rank:18 POS:2

Events Attended: PBR Future Games, Future 50
Scouting Report: The 6-foot-2, 183-pound southpaw was put in the national spotlight at the PBR Future games and really made a name for himself. The only 2021 on Team Ohio’s roster was impressive enough in his performance to be ranked in the top 20 nationally in his class. Bruni had a mid 80s fastball that been up to 87 mph. Spins a 1/7 breaking ball that has potential to become a swing and miss offering as it is already a well above average pitch presently. Also has a changeup in his repertoire. For what it’s worth he would be a high-level prospect as a position player if his ceiling wasn’t so high on the mound.
Outlook: It’s very early but presently he ranks amongst the nation’s best when it comes to left-handed pitching prospects. Bruni shows all the signs of being a future starter at the next level, already receiving attention from some of the country’s top programs. For now he has separated himself as the state’s top prospect in the 2021 class.
