Offers Begin For Two-Sport Freshman Saunders

WESTERVILLE - It did not take college coaches long to find Kaden Saunders.

Speed will do that.

A 6.66 clocking in the 60 as a freshman is hard to miss. It has the Westerville South 2022 on the radar of a large number of schools in both football and baseball. In fact, Michigan State has already made an offer for Saunders to play wide receiver at the Big 10 school.

But baseball is also in the future for the 5-11 150-pounder.

“All the schools I’ve been in contact with I tell them I want to do both,” explained Saunders, who has talked with Tennessee, Ohio State, Cincinnati and Louisville for baseball. :”They all really like my speed, that’s what stands out the most.”

Getting coaches in two major sports at the same school to show interest is a challenge.

”I haven’t been in contact with Michigan State as far as baseball,” Saunders noted. “But now that I have a football offer I’ll be in contact with them. Tennessee and Ohio State (baseball) both said they need football on board.”

While just a ninth grader, Saunders understands the difficulty playing two sports at the next level can be.

“Time management will probably be the biggest challenge,” Saunders pointed out.

But that is not about to dissuade him from trying to play two sports.

“I have a love for both games,” Saunders said. “I’ve been playing both since I was little and it’s always been a dream of mine to continue to do that.

“Playing college sports is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always dreamed about being on the field in college. When everybody started telling me I was a really good player I began to realize I have a chance to do it.”

But not without working to improve his game.
