Gavin Jones RHP / OF / North Royalton, OH / 2022

NORTH ROYALTON - The thought of playing college baseball hit Gavin Jones freshman year in high school.

“I was called up to pitch in a varsity game,” the North Royalton sophomore reflected back to nearly one year ago. “It was against Strongsville and I struck out some older kids. I started to get college baseball looks that summer and was thinking maybe I’ll be able to play this game in college.”

If more evidence was needed, the 20th-ranked 2022 in Ohio drew interest from the next level while performing at the Future Games the first week of August.

“That was awesome,” pointed out Jones. “It was an amazing experience pitching in front of all those coaches and getting on the radar of them. It’s the best thing that could happen for me.”

Schools, particularly from Ohio, took notice.

“I first started talking with Ohio around the Future Games,” Jones noted. “I talked to BG right after it and got a few looks from Kent State, Cincinnati and Miami. There were a few others as well after the Future Games.”

But it was OU that intrigued Jones the most.

“They saw me play fall ball at their campus and they liked me there,” the fifth-rated right-handed pitcher in the state’s sophomore class said. “I did pretty well. Then I saw they had a camp in December. It was then that they really started talking to me. It all felt right.

“They liked my size and projectability. They like the way I pitch. I throw strikes, I command the zone, I’m uptempo.”

The 6-2 176-pounder became enamoured with Ohio University as well.
