August 20, 2017
Griffin Merritt, 3B, Lasalle HS, Class of 2018
PBR: Why did you choose Cincinnati?
Merritt: The University of Cincinnati is a perfect fit for what I am looking for in a college. It is competitive both academically and athletically. It will allow for my family to come to home games, an allow me to stay very close to home.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Merritt: I was considering multiple schools in the MAC along with Michigan State and USC Upstate. For football, I was considering Ivy League schools along with Furman.
PBR: This summer you competed in PBR’s Top Prospect Games, how did you performance help you in the recruiting process?
Merritt: The TPG was a very well run event that allowed me to get in front of multiple schools that were interested in me all at once. The TPG really helped me, and I had multiple coaches contact me immediately following my performance.
PBR: Coach Googins was just hired as the new coach at UC, how does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?
Merritt: It is an awesome feeling. I love what Coach Googins is doing at UC. I am very fortunate to be able to play for a staff that has the same views and goals as I do.
PBR: Was the recruiting process what you expected?
Merritt: The recruiting process was a journey for me. It had its ups and downs. It really picked up for me after the Futures Games my sophomore year. From there it was a long process, but in the end I know it all worked out.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Merritt: I play for the Cincy Flames. My most memorable experience was winning the 17u Summer Classic at UC.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced?
Merritt: Nick Bennett
