Mitchel Megias, RHP, Gahanna Lincoln HS, Class of 2018

PBR: Why did you choose Notre Dame? 

Megias: Notre Dame gave me the unique opportunity of playing high level baseball while receiving a great education. I also connected with Coach Aoki and his staff and believe that Notre Dame will be a great place to develop on and off the field.  

PBR: What other schools were you considering? 

Megias: Harvard, NC State, Miami (OH) and Xavier.  

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship develop?  

Megias: Coach Ristano reached out to me after my first start at the WWBA in Atlanta. After talking with him, it became clear that Notre Dame could be a great fit for me. After the tournament, I was able to visit campus, where I spoke more with the coaches and learned about the program and the university.  

PBR: Was the recruiting process what you expected?  

Megias: Not at all. At times it seemed to be moving very quickly and then it would slow down. It was important to stay focused on baseball and let the process play out. 

 

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 program?  

Megias: It's a dream come true. At the beginning of the year, I didn't expect to have had the opportunities that came my way this summer.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Megias: I play for Bo Jackson Elite 2018s, coached by Cory Valentine. The most memorable experience from this summer was when we played a highly competitive game against the Evoshield Canes at the WWBA that ultimately ended in a 0-0 tie. It was fun watching several pitchers combine for a shutout.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Megias: My parents. They've both spent so much of their time and money to help get me to where I'm at today.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Megias: I was 3-1 with a 1.8 ERA.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Megias: Trenton Gillison from Pickerington Central is always a tough at bat.
