Derek Carr, RHP, Licking Valley HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio?

Carr:  They had want I wanted to study (DPT program), loved the environment and coaches were nice.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Carr:  Tiffin, Morehead State, and Dayton

PBR: Where did the OU coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship begin with them?

Carr:  They saw a video on PBR, watched a DVD we sent them and they came to watch me while I played for Ohio Elite.

PBR:  Coach Smith has brought the Bobcat program some recent success, how does it feel to be a part of the culture that will change Bobcat baseball?

Carr:  It is exciting because the future of this program looks bright and proud to be apart of it.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Carr:  To keep bettering myself, and be healthily.  Looking forward to my senior year and hopefully finish my high school season with a league title and more!

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Carr:  It is very exciting, it shows that all your hard work paid off.  

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Carr:  I played for Coach Valentine's Ohio Elite team.  It was a fantastic experience,  made a  lot of new friends and enjoyed playing on some really nice fields.  My most memorable experience was actually off the field listening to Jaret Edwards and his famous quotes he says during the games.  (lol

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Carr:  My parents…..without them none of this could of been possible.  Going to lessons, games, workouts…….they were always there supporting me.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Carr:  I was hurt in spring ball and was not allowed to throw.  I played in 10 innings, throwing against Chandler Day at Watkins was exciting.  There were 22 pro scouts there!

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Carr:  The toughest wasn't anyone in Ohio, however it was a player going to Florida.  He took me dead center, and he could hit anything I threw to him.  Don't know his name but at the end of the game and told him great job!
