Alex Decker, RHP, Fairmont HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Army?

Decker: I chose Army for multiple reasons. Attending such a prestigious academic school will be very helpful in the future. I also considered joining the military if I wasn't going to play baseball in college, but now I will be able to do both. To compete at the division 1 level has always been a goal of mine as well. I've built very good relationships with the coaches, especially Coach DeCicco, the pitching coach.  Lastly, I'm very excited to be apart of a family who is all in it for each other.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Decker: I had gained interest from schools in the Big Ten, MAC, AAC, and Horizon League.

PBR: With Army being a military academy, how will that affect your daily schedule and your focus on athletics?

Decker: Throughout the school year, most of my time and focus will actually be spent on just academics and baseball. Meanwhile, part of my summer will include military training.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into Army?

Decker: My individual goals for baseball are to be stronger mentally and physically, continue to fine tune my mechanics, and gain more velocity while having control. The team goals I have for this spring at Fairmont are to win the GWOC central and make a deep tournament run.

PBR: You were highly touted recruit, what made you choose to go to Army instead of a major baseball program?

Decker: I feel that with my personality, Army couldn't be a better fit. From a baseball standpoint I believe that Coach Reid makes his team one to compete with, and it shows for in 2012 they won over 40 games. Another reason is that graduating from West Point will have significant benefits and my education will be fully funded.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Decker: My dad has had the greatest impact on my baseball career. He has pushed me to take advantage of opportunities, taught me to be comfortable being uncomfortable, and has encouraged me to reach my maximum potential. My family, friends, and coaches have all been extremely supportive and helpful also.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Decker: 8 G, 24 IN, 23 K, 2-1,1 SV
