Inside the Recruitment: '16 OF Beau Workman commits to Malone
November 3, 2015
Beau Workman, OF, Northwest, Class of 2016
PBR: Why did you choose Malone?
Workman: Ever since I stepped on campus I felt that it was the right fit for me. I love the school, team and coaches. It's only a half hour from my house. They will be doing big things with their program starting this year and beyond. I feel that it will help me grow as a baseball player but most importantly a great person. I couldn't be anymore excited.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Workman: Ohio University, Lake Erie, Walsh, Heidleberg, Mercyhurst.
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?
Workman: Coach Crank and his staff saw me first at their winter camp last year. After the camp they contacted me and wanted me to come visit. Then I took an official visit there. Following that Coach Crank came out and watched me play summer ball this past summer.
PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Workman: They expect me to play a big role when I step on campus, and that's to earn a starting spot as a freshman. I was also expecting myself to do that myself because that's the type of player that I am. I will work as hard as I can to do so.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Workman: My dad. He's been there right next to me through it all. He's the one who brought me up through this game. He has raised me to become the man I am today, and couldn't be anymore thankful for both of my parents.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Workman: I play for the Diamond Boys 18U College Prep team. My most exciting experience would be this past season I batted second in the lineup between Matt Carpenter (Ohio State Freshman) and Andy Weber ( University of Virginia Freshman) I learned so much from those two guys.
PBR: What were your stats last season?
Workman: .386 batting average. .511 on base percentage.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Ohio?
Workman: Chandler Day, one of the best in the class of 2015.
