Inside the Recruitment: '16 C Spencer Yankle commits to Oakland

Spencer Yankle, C, Olentangy LIberty, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Oakland?

Yankle:  I chose Oakland for many reasons. One being that I really loved the coaching staff and when I went on my visit they made me feel like I was at home. Second, there is a possibility of playing time as a freshman and that's huge for me. Lastly, the academic aspect of Oakland was very impressive and is the right fit for me and my family

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Yankle:  I was also considering Eastern Michigan, Xavier, Wright State, Cincinnati, Kent State, And Denison

PBR: Where did coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Yankle:  I picked up a tournament with the Ohio Warhawks 18u and there Coach Musachio saw me and liked me so after that my family and I went on a visit and met Coach Healey the assistant coach, and they both truly made me feel at home and like I was part of the Oakland Baseball Family.

PBR: Your high school teammate, Nick will be attending Oakland this fall.  How of much of an influence did he have on you decision?

Yankle:   I've been very close with Nick since my freshman year so its just an added bonus that I can continue my baseball career with him. We have had such great chemistry on and off the field so I'm excited to see what we can do at the collegiate level

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Yankle:  We haven't really discussed that too much but I believe he wants me to compete and work hard at being a strong leader for the pitcher staff.

PBR:  What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Yankle:  After my summer team, the Midwest Pelicans, went under I knew it was going to be difficult but i never wanted to use that as an excuse and I was very fortunate to be surrounded by people who want the best for me and who were willing to help me reach my goal of playing college baseball.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Yankle:  Two people in particular have had a huge impact on me as a player and that is my Brother and Cameron Comer. They both are great role models and both very hard workers and over the years that have taught me many things about the game.
