Inside the Recruitment: '15 RHP Clyde Yoder commits to Malone
November 19, 2014
Clyde Yoder, RHP, Hiland HS, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Malone?
Yoder: The location is close to home which will be nice for my family to come and watch. Also, the financial package offered was very hard to turn down.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Yoder: It came down to Malone and Ohio University. It was a very tough decision. Other schools that showed a lot of interest were Buffalo, Eastern Kentucky, Bowling Green, Wabash Valley, Central Michigan, and Seton Hill.
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?
Yoder: They first saw me compete at a Malone prospect camp my fall 2013. The coaches invited me up for a visit and I did very well. Since then they stayed very closely in touch.
PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Yoder: They expect me to come on campus and pitch from day one. I want to be a front line guy from the first day I come on campus and will continue to work hard to accomplish this goal.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Yoder: My father Wayne Yoder. He has always been there to support me through everything and is the reason I was able to attend any summer ball events and showcases. None of this would have been possible without him.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Yoder: The Brownlee Lookouts. By far the most exciting experience was relieving the last 5 innings of the NABF regional tournament and winning the game. Ending the close game with a strikeout under the lights was more exciting and enjoyable than any other game I had pitched in.
PBR: What were your stats last season?
Yoder: 1.62 ERA. 33 Innings pitched. 63 Strikeouts.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced in Ohio?
Yoder: Todd Ropp. No other hitter came close.
