Inside the Recruitment: '15 INF Griffin Watterson commits to Marietta
December 3, 2014
Griffin Watterson, INF, Bay HS, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Marietta?
Watterson: I chose Marietta because the opportunity to play for a team that competes on a national stage year in and year out is incomparable. I also really like the competitive atmosphere that Coach Brewer creates within the program. Another reason is the strong sports management program that the school has to offer. Also the buzz that the team creates throughout the city and the fact that the community is so loyal to the program is something really special in my opinion.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Watterson: Alderson Broaddus, Point Park, Mount Union, and Heidelberg were my top 5 obviously including Marietta.
PBR: Where did Coach Brewer first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
Watterson: Coach Rosen actually was the first coach to see me and it was at the Buckeye Elite tournament this past summer in Columbus. Early this fall Coach Castle contacted me and I went down on a campus visit and met the coaching staff.
PBR: Marietta is a Division III Powerhouse. How does it feel to be a part of such a great program and instantly be a national contender?
Watterson: I am truly humbled and honored about the opportunity to become a part of this storied program. Like I said before I don't think that anything compares to the opportunity to play for a national championship.
PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Watterson: I play for the T3 Rays coached by Eddie Konopka. I think that the environment summer ball creates was crucial to my development, from the offseason workouts, to competing in tournaments throughout the summer against top notch competition.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Watterson: Coach Dave Bocanelli has definitely had the biggest impact on me as a player and as a person as well because he taught me how to play the game the right way while also shaping me into a man and the person that I have become today. Also I could have not done anything I have up to this point without the support of both my parents.
PBR: Who is the best pitcher in Ohio that you have ever faced?
Watterson: Eric Lauer from Midview
