Inside the Recruitment: '15 1B Taylor Cave commits to Baldwin Wallace
December 14, 2014
Taylor Cave, 1B, Brecksville HS, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Baldwin Wallace?
Cave: I decided on BW because of the atmosphere you feel right when you step on campus. Everyone who attends there whether staff or student is very welcoming. Also, academically Baldwin Wallace excels and offers great opportunities for their students.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Cave: John Carroll, Mount Union and Ashland
PBR: What was the relationship you had with the Coach Harrison and the rest of the coaching staff in the recruitment process?
Cave: Coach Harrison is a great coach, and mentor who I feel will help me become the best ball player and student I can be. He also did a great job connecting with me and my family when I attended my periodic visits. Coach DeAngelis was the one who first called me and immediately gave me a great vibe that they wanted me to be a part of the program.
PBR: Where did Baldwin Wallace first see you compete?
Cave: Coach Harrison and DeAngelis first saw me at the Buckeye Elite this past summer.
PBR: Coach Harrison has been able to turnaround every program that he has coached and just recently lead BW to the Division III College World Series. How does it feel to be part of such a program on the rise?
Cave: It feels great to be a part of a team that is a national contender, and will be for the future. It motivates me to work that much harder to be the best I can be!
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help as a Yellow Jacket?
Cave: My biggest strength as a player is my dedication and determination to improve day in and day out. I feel that as a Yellow Jacket I will contribute whether on or off the field.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Cave: This past summer I played for the Premier Athletics, and the best part of the season was making it to the Elite 8 in the Caba World Series and beating Bergen Beach!
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Cave: My Coaches have had a huge impact on my career (John Mutch, Dan Smego, Derek Wheeler), but I wouldn't be where I am today without the support of my family.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Cave: The toughest pitcher I have faced is Perry Dellavalle, who is currently pitching at Seton Hill. He does a great job keeping the hitter off balance with his pitch selection, and attacking the batters.
