Inside the Recruitment: '15 RHP Sam Worley commits to Ohio Dominican
December 2, 2014
Sam Worley, RHP, Dayton Christian, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Ohio Dominican?
Worley: I chose Ohio Dominican because of the academic prestige associated with their business program, and the great coaching staff that they have. I believe that Coach Page can really help develop me as a player and person.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Worley: I was considering Earlham College and Concord University.
PBR: Where did Ohio Dominican first see you? How did your relationship develop with Coach Page?
Worley: Ohio Dominican first saw me at the 15th Annual Bob Ross Classic. My relationship with Coach Page was almost instantaneous. Coaches that have a lot of experience have always liked my pitching, so I was really excited when Coach Page was interested.
PBR: Coach Page has made Ohio Dominican a baseball powerhouse. What will it be like to play under the legendary coach?
Worley: I have some experience playing under prestigious coaches before. Going into my freshman year I played for Tim Engelka, the winningest coach in OHSAA D1 baseball. I learned a lot in that summer, and I expect to learn even more from Coach Page.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Worley: Coach Page and Coach Antonides expect me to come in and ideally be in the rotation.
PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Worley: This will be my third year playing on the Dayton Classics. Being coached by Coach Beemer, who has a very high baseball IQ, has been a blessing. I've become a much better pitcher under his guidance.
PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Worley: Either throwing a one-hit shut out in the Cincinnati Flames tournament at St. X, or when we run-ruled a nationally ranked team in our last game of the season.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Worley: My summer and High school coaches have. I've received support and motivation from both ends of the spectrum, which has improved my abilities and confidence.
PBR: What were your stats for this spring season?
Worley: I was 6-2 with 60 K's, 45.1 IP, I also hit .368 with 31 RBI's and a record 35 hits in a season for my high school.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Worley: I haven't really faced a batter who has squared me up consistently in the game. However I pitched against the Fairfield Marlins in my last summer start and they were able to string together good hits and push runs across.
