Inside the Recruitment: '15 1B Carl Brubaker commits to Mott CC
December 14, 2014
Carl Brubaker, 1B, Archbold HS, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Mott?
Brubaker: Mott is a highly ranked academic school with a nice campus. I hit it off right away with the coaches, who I feel can take me to the next level. It is a good fit for me.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Brubaker: I was looking at several JUCO's as well as a few four year programs.
PBR: Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?
Brubaker: I sent Coach Christensen video clips of my play from last summer. I went to Mott for a workout and campus tour. Everything seemed to fall into place after that with emails, texts and phone calls.
PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Brubaker: They expect me to be a team leader and have an immediate impact offensively and at 1B. I am also expected to perform in the classroom.
PBR: What are you individual and team goals for this spring?
Brubaker: As a team we should play well together and work towards winning State. For myself, I will work hard and contribute to the team anyway I can.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Brubaker: There were a lot of people who influenced and helped me, but my parents had the most impact on me. They spent a lot of time helping me realize my dream to play at the next level.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Brubaker: I played for Archbold ACME and we placed 4th at State. I also played for a travel team out of Michigan.
PBR: What were your stats last season?
Brubaker: .444 BA .655 OBP .667 SLG 31 SB
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced?
Brubaker: Zach Willeman from Napoleon. He is now at Kent State. He threw 91 against me and has a nasty curve.
