PERRYSBURG - Luke Borer sees the future getting brighter.

More size, better numbers and the opportunity to play with Bo Jackson Elite has the Perrysburg junior excited about what lies ahead in his baseball recruitment.

“I’ve put on 10 to 15 pounds since summer,” the 6-0 175-pounder said. “I’m much stronger now.”

A two-way prospect, Borer points to the increased strength as beneficial to his pitching.

“I hit 88 at Ohio Dominican this fall,” the right-handed hurler noted. “Using my legs, weight lifting and adding those pounds helped with that.”

A shortstop to this point on his high school team, the 100th-ranked 2020 in the state has now started gaining interest on the mound.

“I’m talking to schools predominantly around here,” Borer said in reference to Ohio and Michigan colleges. “It’s mainly D-I schools.”

The idea of playing at the next level picked up for Borer after 10th grade.

“I just blossomed into one of the top guys at Perrysburg,” Borer reflected. “I was all-league as a sophomore. I saw that Brock Nartker (Anthony Wayne High School 2018 graduate) was going to Wright State and he pitched against us many times  and I did pretty well. That was when I realized that maybe I could play in college and I started training harder to see if I can do that.”

Participating in the PBR ACME/Legion Showcase last summer - where Borer was listed among the Most Projectable Arms and Best Swing - was very helpful.

“It was a great experience playing with all the top talent around here,” Borer noted. “Seeing guys like Rigo Ramos and Benny Roebuck, it showed me what I have to do to be the ‘next best  guy’ from northwest Ohio.”

Borer is hoping for the chance to show it as a two-way player.
