Day 1 of the PBR Future Games saw over 300 of the top uncommitted 2018 and select 2019 graduates from across the PBR network of states perform in front of over 150 colleges from across the country. Day 1 consisted of the position player workout and Team Mid-Atlantic did not disappoint.
Position players were split into four groups on the day with corner infield, middle infield, outfield, and catchers. Several Mid-Atlantic members were statistical leaders in their position group including Camden Grimes (Hanover, VA) having the highest corner infield velocity on the day (90 mph), Tevin Tucker (Prince George, VA) having one of the top 60-yard dash (6.71) times of the middle infielders and the event as a whole, and Kevin Madden (St. Paul’s, MD) positing one of the better middle infield velocities as well with his top throw clocking at 88 mph.
Projection always plays a role in the world of scouting and the outfield group of team Mid-Atlantic fit right into that bill with the performances from Brooks Bengston, Brandon Cook, Don Goodes, Jeremy Lapp-Barger, JP Murphy, and David Willis. All three turned in strong performances for the outfielders both defensively and on the offensive end.
Grimes, Madden, and Tucker all turned in quality performances for the infield sessions. John Dempsey (Georgetown Prep, MD) Displayed soft hands and quick release in the infield along with a short stroke at the plate. Nick Hopkins and Will Glock set new personal records with Hopkins getting up to 89 mph in exit velocity from the right side along with 88 mph from the left while Glock was up to 85 mph across the diamond. Kyle Novak took an impressive batting practice showing gap-to-gap ability at the plate beating up the middle of the field. Joe Seidler and Austin Primm barreled the ball well during their batting practice and the dual threats also will have the opportunity to show off the ability on the mound on Day 2 of the Future Games as we will kick off into the games.
Finishing the day was the catching group and catchers Cameron Blankenship, Trent Gast-Woodard and Hunter McGarvey all showed off from behind the dish with all throwing under 2.1.
Day two comes tomorrow for the Future Games with pitching poised to be on display. Stay tuned to PBR for more updates from the premier event for rising juniors. For now CLICK HERE to see the full stats from the Mid-Atlantic team on day 1.
