Andrew Jones SS / RHP / Brush, OH / 2022Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 3
SOUTH EUCLID - Sophomore year of high school was approaching when Andrew Jones found out Ohio State had an interest. “Summer season was wrapping up and they reached out to my head coach,” explained the fifth-rated player in Ohio’s 2022 class. “I had sent a recruiting video and he said he wanted to see more. I went to their next camp on Aug. 18 and sat down with (head) coach (Greg) Beals and talked about the program.” While Purdue, Illinois, Xavier and Cincinnati were schools the Brush sophomore had been in contact with prior, the 6-2 175-pounder was certainly intrigued by Ohio State. After all, his dad was a big OSU fan and his sister was an Ohio State graduate. “I loved the campus,” Jones said about the visit. “They had what I wanted to get into in my career, sports medicine and sports science. He talked to me about the medicine side of things. The coaches were honest with you. They talked about the need to do things the right way.” Ohio State saw that Jones did things the right way on the ball field. “They like the communication I have in taking over the infield,” noted Jones, a shortstop as well as pitcher. “I make the routine plays to help the defense and I’m a smart hitter able to lay off pitches.” A commitment followed giving the Buckeyes their first commitment from a ranked player in the state’s 2022 class. |
