Countdown to Signing Day: Toledo's 2013 Recruiting Class

With the fall signing period starting on November 14th, PBR Ohio will be taking a look at the number of players from Ohio headed to a college program within the state’s borders. Each day, we will break down a school's class player-by-player. Earlier, we reviewed the recruiting classes from AkronBowling GreenCincinnatiDaytonKent StateMiami University, The Ohio State University, and Ohio University. Now, we move on to the University of Toledo.

TOLEDO

After an exceptionally big class in 2012, which was heavy on pitching, Coach Mee and recruiting coordinator Coach Bradford brought in three position players from within the state’s borders.Krupar

Jake Krupar (pictured right), a left-handed hitting outfielder with a power bat from Canton Central Catholic, started out slow this past summer. But, after some adjustments to his swing, he put up some big time numbers against top-level competition.

Local product Corey Tipton of Toledo St. John’s, who made national news after his role in an acrobatic infield catch, is an athletic prospect that should compete for playing time behind the plate down the road.

Lastly, Wauseon’s Josh Cales was relatively unknown prior to his standout performance at PBR Ohio’s Northern Ohio Open ID in Norwalk. The big, athletic prospect caught the eye of the Toledo staff with his raw skills (upper 80’s arm from the mound and outfield) and later issued a commitment to the Rockets.
