WEST CHESTER - Cade Boxrucker picked the right time to be at his best. With coaches from across the country in attendance, the 6-2 180-pounder had a stellar performance on the mound representing Team Ohio at the Future Games in early August. “I thought I did well,” the Hamilton Badin junior right-hander said. “It was one of my best outings. I was in a zone. Seeing all the scouts there and knowing my future could be on the line, I went out there and did my thing.” The showing brought interest from a number of colleges, including Campbell University. “My high school coach told me coach (Justin) Haire wanted me to call him,” Boxrucker said of the Campbell head coach. “He’s an alumni (of Badin). He came to the Top Prospect Games and the Future Games to see me. That’s where it all started. We stayed in touch and a couple days after the Future Games they started talking money and getting me on campus.” The visit took place Sept. 3 and soon after Boxrucker committed to the Big South Conference school. “They said the like my quick twitch and that I love to compete,” the 21st-ranked player in Ohio’s 2020 class said. “When I get in big situations in high school ball, you realize that. I have a love for the game and they like how competitive I am.” An older brother helped bring that out of Boxrucker. |
