Best of the Rest 2015 Prospects from the Last Showcase of the Winter

Adam O’Brien, C, Louisville HS
6-foot-2, 160-pound with tall, lean build. Ran a 7.53 60 on a slow track. Uses short arm action with top velocity of 66 mph. Pop times between 2.52 to 2.56. Will get better as his footwork improves and he improves transfer, including glove to hand exchange. At the plate, he starts with a wide stance. Tendency to wrap and bar during his load, which creates some length. Registered top exit velocity of 75 mph off the tee.
Andrew Barber, RHP, St. Francis DeSales
6-foot-2, 190-pound southpaw with big, solid build. Throws with long arm action through over the top arm slot. Tall and fall type delivery. Fastball is straight at 67-70 mph. Curveball shows some sweeping action at 63-66 mph while changeup is thrown for strikes with some fade at 62-65 mph. Will see velocity increase as he speeds up his lower half.
Bailey Duhamel, 3B/RHP, Sylvania Northview HS
6-foot, 170-pound two-way prospect with average build. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Shows average hands and feet. Reached top velocity of 75 mph on his throws. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has a tendency to wrap during his load. Uses a long stride. Swing will be aided by more use of his lower half. Contact type hitter with potential for more strength in his swing. Registered a top exit velocity of 69 mph. On the mound, the right-hander uses a high leg kick and throws through a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sits 78-79 mph with occasional run. Curveball shows some spin at 64-67 mph while changeup is straight at 72-74 mph.
Brad Croy, SS/C, Ottawa Glandorf HS
5-foot-8, 140-pound prospect with small, athletic build. From behind the plate, he shows quick compact actions. Pop times between 2.20-2.27. Needs to continue improving direction of his footwork. Reached top velocity of 71 mph with accurate throws. In the infield, he projects as a second base type until he develops more arm strength. Good hands with quick transfer. Throws well from all angles. Aggressive to the baseball. Not the quickest athlete, but takes good routes. At the plate, he starts with slightly open stance and uses a short stride. Rotational type mechanics, but needs to improve use of lower half. Takes level path to the ball. Line drive type production. On the mound, the small righty shows quick arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. He is a strike thrower. Fastball sat in the mid 70’s and reached up to 79 mph with some run to it. Curveball shows some bite at 67-68 mph and changeup has similar movement to his fastball at 74 mph.
Brandon Kunk, LHP/OF, Coldwater HS
5-foot-10, 165-pound two-way prospect with solid, athletic build. Reached top velocity of 73 mph from the outfield. Uses short arm action through over the top arm slot. Shows average hands and footwork. Uses long transfer. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a tall, narrow stance. Uses a leg kick trigger which causing timing issues. Tendency to wrap his bat during his load. Takes level path to the ball. Reached top exit velocity of 78 mph off the tee. On the mound, the lefty uses long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Shows straight action on a 73-75 mph fastball. His breaking ball shows late 1/7 break at 62-63 mph with good command. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed, but lacks consistent command. It sits 65-67 mph with some sink.
Daniel Mitri, C/2B, Notre Dame Cathedral Latin HS
5-foot-11, 176-pound catching prospect with athletic build. From behind the plate, he uses short arm action with a top velocity of 68 mph on his throws. Starts from high crouch. Footwork has tendency to get long. Showed accurate throws. Pop times between 2.16-2.39. In the infield, he projects as a third baseman or second base type. Reached a top velocity of 71 mph across the infield. Needs to consistently play through the baseball. At the plate, he uses toe tap trigger. Tendency to bar his arm in his load. Takes level path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 72 mph off the tee.
David Daly, 2B/SS, New Albany HS
5-foot-10, 180-pound middle infield prospect. Registered 7.46 60 on slow track. Uses long, stiff arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 71 mph across the infield. Plays on his heels. Needs to improve footwork and consistently play through the baseball. At the plate, he starts with a wide, slightly open stance. Takes short stride. Line drive type production. Registered top exit velocity of 75 mph off the tee.
Derek Knisley, C, Bryan HS
5-foot-11, 180-pound catching prospect with strong, solid build. Reached a top velocity of 73 mph from the crouch. Pop times between 2.42-2.44. Needs to improve footwork to better his pop time and accuracy of his throws. At the plat,e he starts with a closed stance. Uses a short stride. Takes uphill path to the ball. Shows some power in his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 79 mph off the tee.
Evan Skinner, RHP/3B, Grove City HS
5-foot-11, 155-pound prospect. Uses long arm action through high ¾ arm slot in the field. Showed accurate throws with top velocity of 76 mph. Needs to develop better use of crowhop from the outfield. In the infield, he tends to get flat footed. Needs to keep his feet moving through the baseball. Reached top velocity of 73 mph on his throws. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a short stride with partial use of his lower half. Tendency to wrap his bat during his load. Takes a level path to the ball. On the mound, he throws through high ¾ arm slot with above average arm speed. Max effort type. Fastball is straight at 75-76 mph. curveball shows some spin at 66-67 mph while changeup has some fade at 68-69 mph.
Griffin Menke, OF/C, Mt. Vernon HS
5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect with average, athletic build. Ran a 7.44 60 on a slow track. Uses long arm action through the high ¾ arm slot from the outfield. Reached a top velocity of 64 mph. Tends to field the ball deep. Starts with wide stance at the plate, uses short stride with rotational mechanics. Starts hands from shoulder trigger. Minimal upper half load. Takes level path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 76 mph off the tee.
Hunter McKelvey, C, Montpelier HS
5-foot-11, 165-pound catching prospect with strong frame. Behind the plate, he starts with a high crouch. Pop times ranged between 2.25 to 2.41 with a top velocity of 65 mph. Pop times and accuracy will get better with improved footwork and closing of his front side. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slight crouch. Uses short stride with partial use of his lower half. Line drive type hitter with raw power. Registered 89 mph exit velocity off the tee.
Jared Shoup, RHP/1B, Montpelier HS
6-foot-3, 200-pound two-way prospect with big, solid build. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 66 mph. Short transfer. Needs to continue improving footwork around the bag. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slightly closed stance. Uses a short stride. Will add power with better use of his lower half. Tendency to wrap during his load. Shows level path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 69 mph. On the mound, the righty uses a slow deliberate delivery. Needs to speed up his lower half to maximize his body. Fastball sat 73-77 mph while curveball shows 11/5 late break at 62-63 mph.
Kyle Bundy, C/OF, Granville HS
5-foot-11, 190-pound prospect with impressive physical build. Ran a 7.01 60 on a slow track. Difficult to project his position at this point. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 63 mph with short arm action. Doesn’t consistently square up his front side, which effects his accuracy. Pop times between 2.66 to 2.78 mph. At the plate, he starts with a closed stance. Uses a shot stride and good use of his lower half. Takes level path to the ball. Consistently squares the ball up. Registered top exit velocity of 89 mph off the tee.
Logan Spieles, RHP/1B, Lima Shawnee HS
5-foot-11, 165-pound two-way prospect with thin build. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 67 mph on his throws. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a short stride with partial use of his lower half. Registered top exit velocity of 74 mph with a 7.58 60 on a slow track. Line drive type hitter that needs to continue to develop physical strength. On the mound, he shows average arm speed with short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat 70-73 mph. curveball was 62-64 mph with 11/5 break and some depth to it. Changeup was thrown near fastball arm speed at 67-68 mph with straight action.
Mitch Cromley, 1B/RHP, Bowling Green HS
6-foot-2, 200-pound first baseman with big, solid frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Quick, clean transfer with accurate 75 mph throws. Moves well around the bag. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a wide, slightly open stance. Uses a short stride with good use of his lower half. Displays an inside/out swing. Shows some quickness in his hands. 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. On the mound, the big righty uses a big leg lick. His fastball sits 77-80 mph with straight action while his slider sits at 70-71 mph with some spin to it. He also showed a sinker at 66-67 mph.
Nate Rau, SS/2B, Bryan HS
5-foot-9, 145-pound middle infield prospect with small, athletic build. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Shows average hands and feet. Reached top velocity of 73 mph. Needs to continue improving his routes to the ball. At the plate, he starts with a balanced approach from the right side. Uses a short stride. Line drive type hitter. Shows some quickness in his hands. Reached top exit velocity of 83 mph off the tee. Registered 7.71 60 on a slow track.
Patrick Oehlman, OF, Newark Catholic HS
5-foot-7, 180-pound infield prospect with strong build. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 75 mph with some accuracy to his throws. Will only get better with development of crow hop. Tendency to field the ball deep. Needs to play through it. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a tall, narrow stance. sues a short stride. Minimal upper half load. Power is limited by inconsistency of reaching extension in his swing. Registered a top exit velocity of 78 mph off the tee. Ran a 7.55 60 on a slow track.
Peyton Bowyer, OF, Grove City HS
5-foot-11, 170-pound outfield prospect. Registered 7.52 60 on a slow track. From the outfield, he shows long, stiff arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 69 mph on his throws. Tendency to play on his heels. Needs to play through the baseball and incorporate more of a crow hop in his throws. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a small leg kick wit ha short stride. Shows line drive production with some strength in his hands. Registered top exit velocity of 83 mph off the tee.
Trevor Anderson, SS/RHP, Lima Shawnee HS
6-foot, 150-pound two-way prospect with thin build. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Reached top velocity of 75 mph on his throws across the infield. Needs to continue improving footwork. Tendency to play on his heels and field the ball deep. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a slightly closed stance. Uses a short stride with good use of his lower half. Takes short, level path to the ball. Registered top exit velocity of 79 mph. On the mound, the righty throws with short arm action through a high ¾ arm slot. Delivery requires regular effort. Fastball is straight at 74-75 mph. Curveball shows gradual 11/5 break at 60-63 mph while changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed at 66-69 mph with some fade to it. Older brother is a 2013 Bowling Green recruit.
