Beckner Excited To Be On The Field Gaining Exposure

WESTERVILLE - Drew Beckner is happy to be back on the field this summer after missing out on his junior campaign at Big Walnut.

“I just believe I’ve worked hard and put in the time and feel that this summer is going to be big,” explained the seventh-rated uncommitted 2021 outfielder in Ohio. “I have a lot of people that push me to be the best I can be and I just have the feeling I’m going to come out and dominate. Nobody’s going to beat me.”

The confidence has built up after a disappointing spring without baseball.

“I played basketball my whole life but I took off this winter to hit the weight room,” related Beckner about a decision to focus on one sport. “My overall strength, my power and even my running have improved.”

It has colleges taking notice, with an offer on the table from Akron and ongoing talks with Miami and Ohio U.

“They like how aggressive I am in games,” Beckner noted. “They like how fast I am in the outfield and how I go gap-to-gap at the plate.”

There is also the prospect of being a two-way player.

“I believe If I make a jump on the mound I can be an efficient pitcher,” explained the 6-0 175-pounder, a left-handed hitter as well as thrower. “My change works well against right-handed batters. I think that can get me on the field before being an outfielder/hitter.”

But an increased velocity is needed.
