2023 Overall Rankings: UNCOMMITTED Focus

Much of the 2023 class remains uncommitted with college coaches eager to get out and see what this group has to offer IN PERSON (starting June 1!). Limited looks were available prior to Covid shutdown, and nearly a year and a half have passed since those same coaches were allowed to be out on the road, so they are eager to get out and look for the future impact players for their program. With that said, time is still at a premium, and coaches are quickly putting together “follow-lists” to prioritize prospects to see first. Below are just some of the talented uncommitted players that made their way into the 2023 Overall Rankings update.

Josh McDevitt RHP / Effingham , IL / 2023

McDevitt’s loose arm and wiry-frame stood out last fall with a quick arm and frame that was still developing physically. Fast-forward to late March, and the uncommitted right-hander is now pumping fastballs up to 92 mph (2442 RPM) with considerable hop and some ride/run through the zone. More physical after a full off-season of work, the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder completes a compact, simple delivery before delivering out of a ¾ slot with a lower vertical approach angle. Working linear down the mound with a controlled arm stroke, McDevitt pounds the zone with the fastball. McDevitt also exhibits impressive aptitude for spin with both a curveball (74-76) and slider (76-78), and while each is still developing (some), the metrics (nearly 2900 RPM on the curveball and 2600 RPM on the slider) are both intriguing and eye-opening. Given the minimal effort of the delivery, and especially the all-around athleticism, look for McDevitt to continue making quick advancements.
