2020 Southern Ohio Underclass Games - Sneak Peek

THe ARMS

Nik Copenhaver RHP / 1B / Badin, OH / 2023 Athletic, 6-foot-4, 190-pound projectable righty. We saw an increase in velocity since seeing him last, in February. Showcased the best fastball in the event sitting 82-84 mph and topping out at 86 mph. Throws with quick arm speed through a ¾ slot and has control of a three-pitch mix. Changeup is an above average pitch especially for his age, it’s deceptive and has sinking action at 75-76 mph. Curveball has signs of being sharp at times and projects well with an 11/5 shape between 68-70 mph. Young righty to keep a close eye on.

THE Position Players

Bryan McAnally OF / C / Newark Catholic, OH / 2024 Young, athletic player who can truly play multiple positions defensively. Reached one of the top five exit velocities in the event at 93 mph. Right-handed hitter with quick hands and present pop off the bat with more to come as he continues to mature physically.

Nathan Blank 2B / RHP / Harrison, OH / 2022 Right-handed hitter has strength at the plate, reaching an exit velocity of 94 mph. Swing translated in game format when he squared up the baseball in multiple AB’s. Tripled to left-center field, hit a hard ground ball to the left side of the infield. Infielder with fluid actions and confidence in his glove. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash.

Cadence Varner OF / 2B / Pleasant Local Schools, OH / 2023 Young, right-handed hitter with quick hands reaching an exit velocity of 88 mph. Made loud contact consistently during his round of BP and was one of the top performers during game play. In his three AB’s he tripled to center field, doubled to right field, and squared up another to the left side of the field. More power to come as he continues to mature physically. Ran a 7.06 60-yard dash.

Drew Gaskins SS / RHP / Big Walnut, OH / 2023 5-foot-11, 160-pound athletic, projectable body frame. Infielder showcased well with athletic footwork and actions displaying good range. Fields with soft hands and has the ability to change arm slots when needed. Presently has enough arm strength to stay on the left side of the infield. Lefty hitter showed present pop, making loud contact during his round of BP, spraying the ball to all parts of the field. Reached an exit velocity of 91 mph with more strength to come as he continues to mature physically.

Harper Hendrickson OF / RHP / Milford, OH / 2023 6-foot-3, 185-pound athletic, projectable frame. Right-handed hitter can hit the ball to all parts of the field with present and projectable strength as he continues to mature physically. Reached an exit velocity of 92 mph. The outfielder has fluid footwork transitioning to a good crow hop before he throws. Clean arm action with present arm strength and more to come. Ran a 7.10 60-yard dash.
