Hamilton’s Ryan Kennedy (2014/OF) has been busy hitting the winter clinic and showcase circuit.
With the recruiting process changing and schools offering prospects earlier in their high school career, Kennedy notes, “This winter has helped me to get on the radar early and to get a feel earlier for how the showcases are set up, so I can become comfortable performing in front of scouts.”
Clearly, Kennedy has found a good comfort level.
Recently, he was highlighted as one of the top performers at the Pre-Season Underclass in Kettering, Ohio:
“Lanky medium build. Has some physical projection and is athletic. Good raw skills (5.42 40 yd on concrete with grade 4 arm 80-82 mph). Defensively, shows life in body with loose arm action. Can play all OF slots. Offensively, open stance, squares barrel on ball well with good hand load & finish. Has some upper-cut, power potential will increase with enhanced physical strength. Needs to improve squaring front side to pitcher to enhance his lower body torque. Potential mid-major D-1 prospect.”
When evaluating his skills, Kennedy notes, “My strengths are my athleticism both in the field and at the plate as well as my bat speed.”
Still, the young prospect knows there are areas of his game that need improvement. “I need to improve on my speed and the mental aspects of my game.”
This spring, Kennedy is looking to play a role in Hamilton’s success at the varsity level. While many underclassmen have the athletic ability to play at the varsity level, they often lack the maturity and mental toughness to handle the challenge.
However, Kennedy clearly shows advanced maturity for his age, “I expect to use this up coming high school season as a big stepping stone in improving myself as a player, both mentally and physically, and preparing myself for the upcoming summer season.”
As he continues to improve as a player and individual, Kennedy is quick to give credit to his father as well as his current coaches, Joey Lewis (Hamilton), Jay Johnson (Cincinnati Flames), and Blaine Griffiths (Cincinnati Flames).
Currently, Kennedy maintains a 3.1 accumulative grade point average while taking all honors courses. His favorite subject area is math, and he intends to pursue a major in college that is related to the math field.
