2013 Underclass Spotlight: RHP Steven Easterling (Ironton)
March 5, 2012
Tucked into southern Ohio, the community of Ironton is well known for its success on the gridiron.
Junior prospect Steven Easterling is hoping to bring the same notoriety to the baseball program.
At the February 18th Pre-Season Underclass Showcase, the talented pitcher proved to be one of the top performing prospects in the Class of 2013.
“I was a little nervous it was my first showcase I've been to and I wasn't sure how to perform,” he said.
While he worked out at multiple positions, Easterling likely projects as a pitcher at the next level right now.
“I think my best tool as a baseball player is my pitching.”
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound right-hander shows quick arm action through a ¾ arm slot. His fastball sits 82-84 mph while his curveball ranged between 62-65 mph with good, downward break. In addition, he shows a 77-78 mph changeup that is thrown near fastball arm speed.
This spring, Easterling and members of the Ironton squad have big expectations for their success on the field.
“Our toughest opponent will be the Wheelersburg Pirates,” he said.
This summer, Easterling will be playing for the District 13 Legion team or the Ohio Red Storm.
He will be participating in the Top Prospect Games at Prasco Park.
