Every year, Defiance High School turns out a big time college pitching prospect.
In the Class of 2012, it was RHP Anthony Kidston (Louisville recruit).
In the Class of 2013, it was RHP Robert Zeigler (Kentucky recruit) and LHP Weston Rivers (Lincoln Trail).
In the Class of 2014, it was RHP Derek Turner.
Now, in the Class of 2015, the attention turns to junior RHP Michael Hendricks.
The 6-foot-3, 206-pound prospect put himself on the map earlier this summer at the Northwest Ohio Open ID at Mercy Field.
While still a bit raw on the mound, Hendricks delivered a heavy 85-88 mph fastball with some late life.
He followed up that appearance at the Underclass Games in July as he sat 86-88 mph and touched up to 90 mph.
Since September 1st, Hendricks has started to receive attention from regional programs.
"I am visiting Ohio State next week," he said.
He followed, "I haven't visited anywhere yet, so I am really looking forward to the visit."
In addition to Ohio State, Hendricks has also been contacted by Miami of Ohio and Indiana.
Just entering the process, Hendricks is carefully evaluating his options.
"I don't have a time table now but if the right opportunity comes along I will jump at it," he explained.
