Top Prospect Games Analysis: Catching Reports from Aug 16th

The New York Top Prospect Games were a huge success, bringing together many talented players from all over New York showing off their skills in front of roughly 40 college scouts and two MLB scouts. We are already focused on making next years Top Prospect Games even better. From this years event, in only two short weeks, 6 players have received and accepted D1 and D2 college scholarship offers. We would like to give a special thanks to all the players, parents, help, and colleges from Aug 16, it truly was a special day for us.
The scouting notes on all 10 Catchers are now complete, lets take a look at what Aug 16th had behind the plate.
Aug 16th Catching Reports:
Kyle Strovink C (Rocky Point HS, 2016) (picture to the right)
Strovink who is the No. 148 overall prospect in the 2016 class throughout the PBR National coverage area stands 6-foot-0 190-pounds with an athletic, strong build. Behind the dish he receives the ball clean with a fast transfer and throws from a high ¾ slot, arm strength at 80 mph and a pop time of 1.91 to the second base. At the plate he swings from the left side with a balanced approach, toe lift and brings his front knee back for timing with a small back load with his bat. His swing plane is level through the strike zone with his hands inside the ball, great extension out in front, and a high powerful finish. His exit velocity off a tee was 83 mph and he ran a 4.4 home to first time.
Andrew White C (Williamsville North HS, 2015)
White is the No. 9 player in the NY Class of 2015 rankings. Behind the dish receives the ball clean with a wide, open target. His hand to glove transfer is clean with quick footwork and accurate throws to the second base. He throws from high ¾ slot with arm strength at 83 mph and 1.91 pop times. With the bat he sets up tall with some weight shifted on his back side. He uses a toe lift for timing, slight back load, and comes through the zone with a level bat and extension through contact. His exit velocity was 86 mph off a tee and he ran a 4.37 to first base.
Brett Guay C (Starpoint HS, 2015)
Guay is the No. 50 player in the NY Class of 2015 rankings, he stands 5-foot-11 187-pounds with a strong, compact built frame. Behind the dish he receives the ball clean, uses great footwork getting in position to throw from a high ¾ slot, 80 mph arm strength to a 1.98 pop time. At the plate he starts balanced and remains balanced throughout his entire swing. He uses a small stride on the pitch with a slightly inclined bat path, extension through the ball with a shoulder high finish. He shows signs of next level power barreling up balls deep in left center gap with an 86 mph exit velocity off a tee. He ran a 4.21 home to first time.
Zach Fascia C (Tuner Fenton Secondary School, 2016)
Fascia stands 6-foot-1 190-pounds with a great body for a catcher. Behind the plate he stays low and athletic and receives the ball clean and smooth with a fast transfer and plus footwork getting lined up with his throw. He throws from a high ¾ slot with arm strength of 82 mph (Seen him higher). His pop time was 2.02 (6-21-14 had him 1.91 all day) and accurate. With the bat he swings from the left side with a balanced approach. He uses a back knee load with a swing path slightly inclined through the zone. He hands stay inside the ball, uses long extension through contact with a high balanced finish. He ran a 4.39 home to first time.
Joe Deluca C/1B (Niagara CC)
Deluca stands 6-foot-3 235-pounds with a big body behind the plate. He receives the ball with a big target and down, uses ok footwork with a clean transfer, ¾ slot at 79 mph with a 2.03 pop time to second. The switch hitting Catcher uses all parts of the field at the plate with a powerful swing, slightly inclined through the zone and balanced. His exit velocity of a tee was an impressive 91 mph showing his fast hands and strength. He ran a 4.5 home to first time.
Sean O'Neill C (Webster Schroeder HS, 2016)
O’Neill stands 6-foot-0 175-pounds with a solidly build frame with room to project. Behind the plate he stays big and receives the ball clean, on his throws he uses good alignment with his feet and a clean transfer. He throws from a high ¾ slot with shoulder tilt, 79 mph arm strength and a 2.09 pop time. At the plate his approach is upright and balanced. He uses a back knee load for timing and keeps his hands inside the ball, extension through contact with a level bat path and high finish. His exit velocity was 78 mph and he ran 4.58 home to fist time.
Brad Pearson C (Shenendehowa HS, 2015)
Pearson stands 5-foot-10 175-pounds with a frame that projects more size. Behind the dish he moves his feet laterally fast with plus blocking instincts. He receives the ball clean with a good transfer and throws from a high ¾ slot with arm strength at 76 mph, pop time 2.11. At the plate his approach is upright with his hands slightly above his shoulders. He uses a back front knee for timing with a small load. His hips drift forward before the swing, his swing path is slightly inclined through contact with a shoulder high finish. His exit velocity was 82 mph off a tee and he ran a 4.2 home to first time.
Mitchell Henshaw C (Brockport HS, 2016)
Henshaw stands 5-foot-11 160-pounds with an athletic frame built to add more weight. Behind the plate he shows athleticism and plus reaction skills with a clean, quick transfer from a high ¾ slot, 77 mph arm with a 2.13 pop time respectively. At the plate his approach is balanced bringing his front knee back for timing with a back load. His barrel is level through the strike zone with a balanced shoulder high finish, his exit velocity was 80 mph off a tee, he ran a 4.5 home to first time.
Marshall Kiesow C (Saratoga HS, 2015)
Kiesow stands 5-foot-11 175-pounds with good size behind the plate where he is learning the new position. His catch to hand transfer is average using quick footwork to line himself up with second base. He throws from a mid ¾ slot, accurate throws with a 77 mph arm and a 2.13 pop time respectively. At the plate his approach is back and balanced using a down bat load with a small toe lift for timing. He shows very quick hands inside the ball with a balanced swing, slightly inclined through contact, drives back side through the ball and uses a high finish, exit velocity was 84 mph off a tee. He ran a 4.43 home to first time.
Sawyer Packard C (Bradford HS (PA) 2015)
Packard stands 5-foot-11 180-pounds with a lean athletic frame. Behind the dish he receives the ball with a nice wide target, transfer is fast but footwork is open creating his throws to sail arm side. His pop time was 2.23 but showed much better 7-15-14 with 2.18 accurate throws to second. At the plate he uses a back load and knee lift on the pitch for timing, hands stay inside his body with an inclined swing plane, long extension with a one handed high finish. His exit velocity was 81 mph off a tee and he ran an impressive 4.2 home to first time.
