Top Prospect Games Analysis: 3B Reports from Aug 16th

The New York Top Prospect Games were a huge success, bringing together many talented players from all over New York showing off their skills in front of roughly 40 college scouts and two MLB scouts. We are already focused on making next years Top Prospect Games even better. From this years event, in only two short weeks, 6 players have received and accepted D1 and D2 college scholarship offers. We would like to give a special thanks to all the players, parents, help, and colleges from Aug 16, it truly was a special day for us.

The scouting notes on all 11 3B's are now complete, lets take a look at what Aug 16th had at the hot corner.

Richard Miller 3B (Canisius HS, 2015)
Miller Stands 5-foot-11 190-pounds with a solidly built frame. At 3B he stays behind the baseball, uses soft hands and a quick clean transfer. He throws from a high ¾ slot with 84 mph arm strength. He bats from the left side, has a balanced approach with a short leg lift and stride on the pitch. He generates impressive bat speed at 91 mph off a tee, his bat path is slightly inclined through the zone with extension after contact and a one handed high finish. The Towson commit is our No. 37 ranked player in the 2015 class.

Andrew Bailey 3B (Honeoye Falls-Lima HS, 2015)
Bailey stands 6-foot-0 195-pounds with a strong, athletic frame. At 3B he uses good footwork to get around the baseball, fields it out in front of his body slightly on his right left side, and funnels the ball smoothly to his belt with a clean transfer. He throws form a high ¾ slot, 83 mph arm strength, and gets his back side through his throws. At the plate his setup up is wide, weight shifted back, and back elbow high. He uses a small toe tap – stride for timing on the pitch, powers his hands inside the ball with a slightly inclined bat path through the zone. He uses long extension though contact with a shoulder height one handed finish. His exit velocity was 90 mph off a tee and he ran a 4.39 home to first time.

Joseph Kwasniewski 3B (Iroquois HS, 2015)
Kwasniewski stands 6-foot-1 183-pounds with solid size and room to add more. At 3B he gets around the ball with smooth actions, fields cleanly out in front of his body and has a quick funnel to his belt. His transfer is clean, arm action is short and throws from a mid/high ¾ slot getting his back side through the throw. At the plate he sets up with his feet slightly more than shoulder width apart and his hands low. On the pitch he turns his left knee in, straight back load and stride for timing. His bat barrel is on an incline through the zone with a shoulder height finish.

Jeff Palczewski 3B (Orchard Park HS, 2016)
Palczewski stands 5-foot-10 165-pounds with an athletic build and frame to add 10-15 pounds more. At 3B he fields the ball in the middle of his body, clean transfer, gets the job done but needs more polish, has great athleticism confirmed by his 4.19 home to first time; long arm action and throws from a high ¾ slot, with arm strength at 78 mph. With an emphasis on arm strength and smoother actions he will be a lock down corner defender. At the plate his set up is weight back and hands high. On the pitch he uses a stride, short path to the ball, high contact hitter with a level bat path through the zone, balanced with a long extension through contact, shoulder height finish.

Jake Hewitt 3B (Penfield HS, 2015)
From 3B he uses smooth baseball actions getting around the baseball, fields to his glove side, quick footwork, clean transfer with an average release. He throws with a smooth arm action, from a high ¾ slot at 78 mph across the diamond getting his back side through the ball. At the plate his approach is open with an upright stance. On the pitch he brings his hands back and slightly down, gets his front back to even at shoulder width apart, drives his hands through the baseball with above average hand speed confirmed by his 89 mph exit velocity, extension after contact and a high finish. Spins on his back foot some over rotating his hips.  

Dominick DeMarco 3B (Shaker HS, 2015)
DeMarco stands 6-foot-1 160-pounds with a projectable frame. At 3B he fields the ball wide and out in front of his body with a clean transfer. He shuffles his feet towards his target, stands up creating a longer release. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a 77 mph arm strength. At the plate his set up is shoulder width apart with his hands back. On the pitch he drops his hands and uses a stride for timing. His bat path is short to the ball with an incline, extension after contact with a balanced finish.

Nate Chase 3B (Webster Schroeder HS, 2015)
Chase stands 6-foot-0 180-pounds and a frame with a lot to like.  He fields the ball with a wide balanced stance, quick transfer, clean arm action and throws from a low ¾ slot at 77 mph. At the plate he starts wide and balanced, hands by his face, back load on the pitch with a small stride. He uses great weight transfer, balanced swing, level bat path through the zone with long extension. Signs of power potential.

Matthew Schneider 3B (St. Marys of Lancaster, 2015)
Schneider stands 5-foot-10 165-pounds with a strong lower half. At 3B he moves hard to the ball fielding ball in front, uses a long arm action from a high ¾ slot at 77 mph. At the plate he displays some serious next level power. He drove multiple balls over the fence in BP with a wide setup, uses a back load on the pitch and short stride for timing. He drives his hands inside the ball with a balanced swing, bat path slightly inclined through the strike zone with long extension after contact.

Robert Wiegand 3B (Cicero North HS, 2015)
Wiegand stands 6-foot-0 210-pounds. At 3B he fields the ball out in front of his body going down to get it. He uses a longer arm action from a low ¾ slot at 76 mph. At the plate he sets up with his knee in, and weight back. On the pitch he generates a lot of bat speed (91 mph) uses a back load with a hitch, leg lift, has a level bat path through the zone, long extension after contact with a high finish.

Tyler Mandel 3B (Scarsdale HS, 2017)
Mandel 5-foot-10 198-pounds with a big bodied frame, strong lower half. At 3B he gets to the ball well and fields in the middle of his body, out in front. His transfer is clean and quick to a long arm action, high ¾ slot at 74 mph getting on top of the ball and his back side through. At the plate his weight is shifted back on his right foot, hands relaxed over his back knee. On the pitch he uses a short stride for timing driving his hands powerfully, inside the ball with long extension, high finish with an 86 mph exit velocity.

Nick Daigler RHP (Corning HS, 2017)
At 3B he attacks the ball head on, fields in the middle of his body with a quick transfer, uses a long arm action, high ¾ slot at 70 mph. At the plate he bats from the left side, balanced approach with his hands back. He uses a slight back load on the pitch with a leg lift. He has a pure balanced swing with a slight incline, keeps his hands inside the ball with extension after contact. His bat exit velocity was 76 mph.
